Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encode the information exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to preserve the info that clients submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, and so forth. Any data they enter in any box on the Internet site will be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment details shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. In general, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which implies the overall cost for your web presence will be higher. While this may not be a problem for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which doesn't generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That's the key reason why we've taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
A shared IP can be used for any SSL certificate, irrespective if you purchase it from us or from some other dealer and regardless of the shared hosting plan you have on our end. If you acquire the SSL from us, you shall find this option on the certificate order page within your hosting Control Panel where you can also take advantage of the 1-click automatic configuration option which we offer. If the latter is chosen within the SSL order wizard, our system shall install and set up everything for you via the specifically configured server shared IP, thus once you obtain and approve the SSL, there shall not be anything else to do on your end. You could save the funds that you will otherwise have to pay for a dedicated IP address and the SSL will work in the same exact way, so any data the visitors submit will be encoded. The one difference is that if you input the shared IP instead of your domain name within a web browser, the Internet site shall not show up.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers
Any SSL certificate can be used with our specially set up shared IPs, thus if you have a semi-dedicated server account, you'll be able to use this option with just a couple of mouse clicks when you install a certificate that you obtain through us or through any other vendor. For the SSLs that we offer you are also able to take advantage of another function and have our system set everything up for you. That way once you approve the SSL, the shared IP address will be set for the given domain name or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed with no action needed on your end, and thus any information that website visitors submit on your site shall be protected. The SSL shall perform in the exact same way irrespective if it's set on a shared or a dedicated IP and the only thing which is different between the two setups is that entering the shared IP as a URL within a browser shall not open your website.
